Hi there and welcome! My name is Sheena but affectionately called Sheeners by family and friends. This blog is all about me and what I love in life. I love to cook and develop recipes, create art, and decorate my home. I am a DIY-er, obsessed with makeup, ridiculously in love with my “babies” Cruz and Coy and my husband Sheridan. I am a dominant extrovert who loves talking, leading, and probably most of all efficiency. In my professional life I am a Production Manager and also work in Client Services and love every minute of it.

Sheridan and I met in Spring 2007 and married just a few months later. Together we enjoy everything our “backyard” has to offer, fishing and hunting, hiking and camping. Most of Sheridan’s free time is spent hunting, looking for sheds (antlers), or wildlife photography. He’s a mountain goat and can climb any hill or mountain 10 times faster than anyone else!

Our two mini schnauzers came into our lives at the perfect times. Both born on Christmas day, but 6 years apart. Cruz is all black and the older of the two. He is teeny tiny and has some pancreas issues that keep us all holding our breath a few times a year. He’s been a major comfort during some of the hardest times of my life and has been my little buddy when I’ve been alone while Sheridan is off hunting. Cruz is his daddy’s boy, but has to snuggle his mom at night. And Coy… Coy (aka my Nugget) came at one of the lowest times of my life and has brought so much laughter and silliness to our house. He is a mommy’s boy through and through. I can’t go to the bathroom without him crying and barking outside the door!

I am an artist at heart, and that shines through in almost all the things you’ll find on my blog, from cooking and decorating to beauty and beyond.

First, I shouldn’t admit it, but I spend far too much money on beauty products. I am obsessed with big hair, incredible lashes, and a really good foundation. And lipstick. And mousse, and who can forget leave in conditioners? I’ll review products mostly, but also offer up some tips and tricks I’ve learned through the years.

Second, I ┬áLOVE to cook! I like to pretend I am Italian because the food and culture is my favorite, but you’ll find me cooking all sorts of things from day to day. I struggle to follow recipes and usually tweak them and add a little of this or that, and substitute one thing for another. My recipes will have many variations to suit many tastes and preferences. After a particularly delicious “wing it” dinner, Sheridan will holler for me to “write this one down” after we’ve scarfed it down. Some of my favorites are Spaghetti, Vodka Pasta, my take on an old Ruby Tuesday favorite, Lasagna, quinoa burgers, and a delicious Turkey Sausage with Butternut Squash and Kale. I also tend to want all the gadgets found in Bed Bath and Beyond but then remind myself when it comes down to it I really love doing whatever the gadget can do on my own, the old fashioned way. There’s something… romantic about it, doing things the old fashioned way.

Since we’re talking about food… I dream of one day owning my own vegetable farm. A dream conjured up due to my love of gardening and growing my own food and a particularly romantic documentary on the subject of vegetable farming. You can follow along on my gardening adventures, and this spring and summer I’ll be met with new soil to sow. I’ve got big plans for all kinds of tomatoes, peppers, and most of all squashes!

Now let’s move on inside! I love decorating and designing my home, and have a style that is not common and could be described as anything but neutral. I LOVE dark colors and decorate with them as much as possible, offsetting the dark with bright white and lots of natural light. If you’re looking for beige, browns, and creams, this is not the place for you. But if you’re in need of something a little more daring, and bold, stick around!

Of course I wouldn’t be able to decorate without a little DIY! I love to change dingy and outdated pieces of furniture into something new and fresh. I also like finding things in magazines and catalogs and making my own versions for much less money.

And on the note of making my own things for less money… One major thing happening with us is the build of our new home, projected to be done Spring of 2017. You’ll find posts about how we decided to build, the floor plan, and can follow along in the process. It’s been quite the adventure! I may also share a few things about life in the trailer, our home while the new one is being built.

Last but not least, I am obsessed with becoming a healthier version of myself, mind and body! I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2007 and have dealt with PCOS since I was 11. Together Sheridan and I battled years of fertility treatments and after many losses found out I was unable to have a successful pregnancy. While at the time it felt like a soul crushing diagnosis, I’ve thankfully been able to overcome the grief. I like sharing my experiences in hopes it can help others seek out faster diagnosis and hopefully successful treatments. After a 40 lbs weight loss last year, I am determined to lose more and continue with a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Remember I said I love talking? Well if you’ve made it this far, THANK YOU! I hope you’ll stick around and even more hope you’ll find something helpful or tasty, or just have a good laugh at my expense.
